Cryogenic Cave Calcite Pearl
This fascinating example of how advanced laser ablation techniques like LA-IRMS can unlock stories hidden in natureβs archives used a cryogenic cave calcite pearl from the ScΔriΘoara Ice Cave (Romania).
LA-IRMS was used to explore whether the concentric layers truly formed under cryogenic conditions.

With thanks to Cirpian Stremtan from Teledyne Photon Machines as well as to Montana Puscas and her team and Dr. Aurel Persoiu from the “Emil Racovita” Institute of Speleology of Cluj-Napoca.
The LA-IRMS technique was been developed as part of a collaboration between Sercon, Teledyne Photon Machines and Terra Analitic. Β If youβd like to talk about how you can harness the power of LA-IRMS in your research, just email sales@sercongroup.com.
