University of Bologna LA-IRMS Installation

Maria Rosa Guerrieri (Rosella), Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the Universita di Bologna is looking at 13C data via laser ablation.

To this end, Sercon’s Senior Field Service & Installation Engineer Dave Harris installed a Cryo-LA and HS2022 together with a Teledyne Photon Machines laser (installed at the same time by James Hanson, previously of Sercon).

Rosella is a plant physiologist and forest ecologist with broad research interests unified by the goal of better understanding how forest functioning varies in relation to global changes (namely the increase in atmospheric CO2, variations in atmospheric nitrogen deposition). During her +10 years international research experiences in the UK, USA and Spain, she has significantly contributed to improving our understanding on forest responses to global change  by using stable isotopes alone or in combination with other methodological approaches (e.g., metagenomic, leaf gas exchanges, eddy covariance, dendroecology and xylogenesis), as demonstrated by international collaborations built and papers published (including 39 in ISI-WoS journals, including PNAS, Nature Geoscience, Nature Ecology and Evolution and Global Change Biology).

If you’d like to talk to us about applications of LA-IRMS in your research, just email us, we’d love to hear from you.
