Mae grŵp ymchwil cylchoedd coed yr Adran Ddaearyddiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe’n arbenigo mewn dadansoddi isotopau sefydlog mewn cylchoedd coed ar gyfer archaeoleg gwyddonol, astudio newid palaeoamgylcheddol, ac archwilio prosesau cyfoes a gwydnwch mewn ecosystemau coedwigoedd. Ar hyn o bryd mae’r grŵp yn arwain prosiectau QUERCUS ac UK-OAK; mentrau rhyngddisgyblaethol rhyngwladol sy’n ceisio datblygu pob agwedd ar ddendrocronoleg isotopau sefydlog.

The tree-ring research group at the Department of Geography, Swansea University specialises in the analysis of tree-ring stable isotopes for science-based archaeology, the study of palaeoenvironmental change, and the exploration of contemporary processes and resilience in forest ecosystems. The group currently lead the QUERCUS and UK-OAK projects; international interdisciplinary initiatives dedicated to advancing all aspects of stable isotope dendrochronology.

The most recent system was installed in 2023 and includes:

20402/4 – HS2022 + Hd Collector + E-Mag + Trap Loop
10802/8 – CryoFlex (LA)
10802/9 – IRMS Compatible 213 Laser

An earlier system, installed in 2012 is a Hydra IRMS system coupled to a Teledyne laser.

If you’d like to talk to us about applications of LA-IRMS in your research, just email us, we’d love to hear from you.
